Our assignment was to read chapter 1 of Genesis.

Donna Gordon：The Book of Genesis begins with a Creation story in Chapter 1. What questions do you think that ancient man had when writing this story?
（美国-清辞Ｗei：创世纪的第一章讲的是这个世界是如何创造出来的。古人在写这个故事的时候，大家觉得他心里有些什么问题呢？）

Why am I here on this planet? （美国-清辞Ｗei：我为什么在这个地球上？）

Donna Gordon：Many of you are getting way ahead of the assignment. We were only supposed to read the first Chapter of Genesis. You are all very motivated.

Donna Gordon：The ancient Jews who wrote this story were primarily shepherds of Sheep, goat, and cattle.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：写这个故事的古代犹太人主要是牧羊人（放牧绵羊，山羊和牛）。）

Donna Gordon：They had a lot of time to sit and think about the world around them, and to wonder how life evolved on this planet.

The ancient Jews were a nomadic people. They had large flocks of sheep, goats, and cattle. They lived in tents in large family groups known as tribes. Similarto Mongolian tribes we see today.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：古代犹太人是游牧民族。他们有大群的绵羊，山羊，和牛。他们一大家人住在帐篷里。就想现在的蒙古人部落一样。）
A shepherd is a person whose job is to watch over the animals while they are grazing in the fields and make sure that predator animals don't attack the grazing animals.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：牧人就是照看这些动物，保证不被捕食者袭击的。）
The tribal family was very important. It provided,financial, and security benefits to the members of the tribe.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：部落家族很重要。为部落成员提供了钱财和安全。）
Their focus was on the community and their place in the community.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：他们的重心就是这个集群和他们在集群中的位置。）
The individual was important, but not as important as the survival of the whole group.

Even today, the Jewish people have survived because of the importance of the community. In our prayer rituals, the emphasis is on community prayer instead of individual prayer.

Donna Gordon：It is very important, Fu Feng, because it has what has kept the Jewish community alive even when we were scattered all over the world.

Other ancient civilizations have come and went, yet we have survived to this day.

Donna Gordon：Now, let's look at the first chapter of Genesis.

Most English translations begin the story with, "In the Beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth." Yes？
（美国-清辞Ｗei：大部分的英文版本以下面开头：“开始，上帝创造了天地”。是吗？）

Donna Gordon：The first word is very important for those who know Hebrew. The word in Hebrew is Buh - ray-sheet.

Most translations are in the Beginning, not at first. I do not like the translation using the word Beginning.

Donna Gordon：Does God have a Beginning or an end?

FuFeng扶风 2：大陆流行的中文版圣经，基本以一百年前译的和合本，与二十年前译的新世界译本（见证人）两种为主。
和合本：起初神创造天地。2 大地是空虚混沌。渊面黑暗。神的灵运行在水面上。
新世界本： 最初，上帝创造了天地。 2 大地混沌苍茫，深渊的表面一片黑暗。上帝发出的动力运行在水面上。
Donna Gordon：Yes Fu Feng. My translation is "At first" not "In the Beginning".（是的，扶风，我的翻译是最初，不是开始。）

Donna Gordon："At first" is a better translation because the energy of God has no beginning or end.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：“第一／最初”，是一个更好的翻译，因为上帝的能量没有开始和结束。）
The word for created has a couple of different meanings.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：创造这个词也有两个不同的意思。）
The word for Created in Hebrew is Ba-rah.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：创造这个词在希伯来文里是Ba-rah。）
This word means created from nothing. Only God can create using this word.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：这个词的意思是从没有中创造出来。只有上帝能这样创造。）
FuFeng扶风 2：明白了，这两个版的英文都不是这样的，我再找找呀。
NingXu宁旭 8：懂了。
Donna Gordon：It means Divinely made only by God.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：意思是这是神性的只有上帝能创造的。）

NingXu宁旭 8：还是要原汁原味的希伯来语呀。
Donna Gordon：but.....
FuFeng扶风 2：英文有这个词吗，从无中创造的，Barah？
Donna Gordon：In English we only have one word for create,but Hebrew has a few. Ba-rah can only beused by God.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：英文里只有create这一个词，希伯来文里有几个。Ba-rah只有上帝才能使用。）
Ba-rah can mean "Divinely made". Divine meaning God.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：Ba-rah的意思凭神的力量做到，神就是上帝。）
But....... there is also another way that the word Ba-rah can also be used.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：但是，Ba-rah还有另一个用法。）
It is commonly used as the root word for being Healthy.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：它还常被用来做健康一词的词根。）
Cj：For example?（举个例？）
FuFeng扶风 2：上帝做的都是好的。
Donna Gordon：When we are healthy we are free of something,like diseases, block ages, Yes？
（美国-清辞Ｗei：当我们健康的时候，我们没有一些东西，比如疾病，堵塞等，对吗？）

Cj：上帝为什么要控制人的生育呢？
Donna Gordon：So from this, I understand God's initial action was to create a world where we are free that which blocks us from our highest aspirations.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：根据这个，我的理解是上帝最初的行为是要创造一个我们在里面可以自由的，没有东西阻碍我们最高的理想的世界。）
A world free of blockages.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：一个没有阻碍的世界。）
We are complete in every way. We are Shalom.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：我们在每一个方面都是完整的。我们就是Shalom。）
FuFeng扶风 2：要好好理解一下。意思是人的存在，首先是上帝想创造一个让人可以在里面发挥的空间？
（美国-清辞Ｗei：Donna, I think Fufeng wanted to ask if man exists because god wants to create a free world for man to be in.）
Donna Gordon：Yes, Wei. That is my belief!
（美国-清辞Ｗei:是的，我是这么认为的。）
Donna Gordon：Let's go to the next verse or line.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：我们看下一行。）
Our next line says, "The earth was unformed and desolate, and darkness covered the surface of the abyss."
FuFeng扶风 2：第二句，各家的解释好复杂。
Donna Gordon：This reminds me of Chapter 4 of the Tao Te Ching.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：第二句让我想起道德经的第四章。）
Tao Te Ching Chapter 4:
The Tao is like a well
Used but never used up
It is like the eternal void
Filled with possibilities
It is hidden but always present
I don't know who gave birth to it.
It is older than God.
（道德经第4章：
道冲而用之或不盈。渊兮似万物之宗﹔湛兮，似或存。吾不知谁之子，象帝之先。）
The important line in this Chapter of the Tao is"Filled with possibilities.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：这章道德经重要的一行是“渊兮似万物之宗”/“充满了可能性”。）
FuFeng扶风 2：And the earth was waste and without form; and it was dark on the face of the deep: and the Spirit of God was moving on the face of the waters.
Donna Gordon：Yes Fu Feng. The Bible says that, but my point is that it is similar to a passage from the Tao.
（是的，扶风，The Bible（圣经）是这样说的，但我的观点觉得它和道德经的一段相似。）
FuFeng扶风 2：英文版圣经也有不同，Donna是用哪个版本？kjv? bbe?
kjv: 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Donna Gordon：This is what the bible says.（the bible（圣经）里是这样说的。）
"The earth was unformed and desolate, and the darkness covered the surface of the abyss. The breath of God hovered above the surface of the water.
FuFeng扶风 2：
kjv: darkness was upon the face of the deep.
bbe: it was dark on the face of the deep.
风行草间：Is this void or abyss as old as God？“渊”和上帝同样古老吗？
Donna Gordon：I cannot answer this question, but it would seem that the abyss was present with God.
（我无法回答这个问题，但看上去深渊与上帝同在。）
FuFeng扶风 2： the darkness covered the surface of the abyss.这句感觉完全不同了。
Donna Gordon：The abyss is a very deep void.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：Abyss的意思是非常深的空（洞）。）

Donna Gordon：I added the passage from the Tao Chapter 4 toour discussion because they sound very similar to me.

Donna Gordon：风行草间，I use the word void or abyss.

Does this void or abyss, sound a lot like the Tao?

FuFeng扶风 2：Donna老师给的英文看着就像，我在网上找到的其它英文本子，读着没有这个意思。
Donna Gordon：So, if we look at just the first two lines in a deeper meaning, I believe that God created a world of freedom and filled with infinite possibilities.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：如果我们要找这前两句的深层意思，我认为就是上帝创造了一个自由的世界，里面充满了无限的可能性。）
Donna Gordon：Let's look at the second part of the sentence.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：让我们看看这段的第二部分。）
【The Breath of God hovered above the surface of the water.】
The word for breath, wind, or spirit is Ru-ach in Hebrew.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：气息，风，灵这些词在希伯来文里都是Ru-ach.）
FuFeng扶风 2：会不会等同道家精气神的精？
Cj：有点像人智学的概念，不过在人智学里这个spirit是星魂。
Donna Gordon：The breath or spirit is how our bodies are brought to life.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：breath 或这 Spirit 是我们的身体能活着的原因。）
Cj：astral.(星际的。)
Donna Gordon：When we are born, our first act of life is to get our first breath.
（当我们出生时，我们生命的第一个行为就是我们的第一次呼吸。）
So, here we see that God begins the process of life with breath.
（美国-清辞Ｗei：所以，这里我们看到上帝是用气息开始生命的。）
FuFeng扶风 2：就是那一呼一吸间带动起来的。

Donna Gordon：The beginning of life as we know it is that we all begin with the life force of God known as the breath of God.

Donna Gordon：Abyss means void. （Abyss意思是空洞/深渊。）
A very deep dark place is an abyss, or a void.（一个非常黑暗的地方就是an abyss,或者a void。）
FuFeng扶风 2：这些文字，是你直接从希伯来文里译过来的吗？不是现成的一个什么英文版本？难怪我找不到，太棒了，这样读，完全对上。
上海--陈福美：What is meaning for Ru-ach in Hebrew ?
Donna Gordon：Ru-ach in Hebrew means spirit, wind, or breath.
Donna Gordon：Fu Feng, I miss the meaning if I do not translate from the Hebrew.
（扶风，如果不从希伯来文里译，我就不明白意思。）
FuFeng扶风 2：是的，你这么说，我再看现有的英文版，都把意境译实了。一作实，如这个黑与深，就成感官世界的低维了。
Donna Gordon：Yes, a low world of the senses, and the nlight will be created to awaken those senses.
