On a literal level, the Bible is a group of storiesabout people who are not God, but are relying on God to show them the way tolive a good life.

Donna Gordon：So how are we supposed to follow what Godsays?

What are the major things that we as people should do towin God's blessing?

1. Try not tosin.
2. Do not worship Idols, or statues of other Gods.

Donna Gordon：Do as God commands, and you will be OK.

At the end of our discussion last Friday, Abram made anagreement with Abram and God changed his name to Abraham and his wife's namechanged to Sarah.

Both received God's special favor and are marked by Godbecause of the name change.

Donna Gordon：Well, there is also another way that we carrythe mark of God.

God commands all of Abraham's male descendants to becircumcised.

Does anyone know what male circumcision is?

Donna Gordon：Circumcision means that the foreskin of thepenis is removed.

This is to occur 8 days after the birth of a baby boy.

Donna Gordon：We still do this today. All of our males arecircumcised at 8 days of age unless there is a sickness in the child, thencircumcision will take place when the child is strong.6
In Judaism, circumcision takes place at 8 days of age.

It is a form of sacrifice of something menhave.Sacrifice a part of themselves.

Donna Gordon：No one knows the exact reason why and whenthis practice started in society, but the Bible tries to explain that it musthave started by a commandment of God.

As you continue to read stories in the Bible, you willsee that circumcision of all of the Hebrew males is important.

Circumcision in the males of the Hebrews or Jews is away to distinguish them from men from other tribes.

Donna Gordon：Continuing with our theme of sacrifice today,let's move on to Chapter 22, verse 1.

The ancient Hebrews who wrote the Bible believed thatthe gods of all lands wanted human, animal, or food sacrifices from us.

They believed that it was a way of feeding the differentgods.
（翻译-清辞Ｗei：他们相信这是喂食不同的神的方法。）
They believed that an animal sacrifice which was killedand then burnt on an alter provided food for the gods with the odor of thesmoke that came from it.
（翻译-清辞Ｗei：他们认为宰杀献祭的动物，把他们在祭坛上烧掉，烧的烟和味道可以供养神们。）
Is there anything like this in Chinese culture?

宁波-应奇yingqi：献祭与图腾都挺奇怪的，佛教里面有供养。The sacrifice and the totem arevery strange. There is support for Buddhism.

Donna Gordon：Buddhism has something similar?（佛教里有相似的做法吗？）
Maybe with incense?（是焚香吗？）

宁波-应奇yingqi：Every family has Avalokiteshvara, the first month will supportthe fruit or burn incense and so on.（每家都有观音菩萨，每月月初会供养水果或烧香等等。）
Donna Gordon：Do you light incense when you are honoringyour dead relatives?

There are offerings of flowers, or water there.还有供养鲜花，或者清水也有。
Donna Gordon：Unfortunately, sacrifice in the ancientMiddle Eastern countries had an ugly side as well.

Child sacrifice was a common practice.

Families would offer their first born son or daughter toa fire god called Moloch.

Donna Gordon：Some of the ancient Hebrews were involved inthis practice. They were not followingthe commandments of God.

Chapter 22 is about Abraham trying to sacrifice his sonIsaac.

Why did God want Abraham to sacrifice Isaac?

What is more precious to us as human beings?

Donna Gordon：Our children are more precious than goldright?

Donna Gordon：Abraham and Sarah together only have 1 son.This is their only child.
（翻译-清辞Ｗei：亚伯拉罕和撒拉只有一个儿子，这是他们唯一的孩子。）
God wants to see if Abraham will sacrifice his only sonfor God.
（翻译-清辞Ｗei：神想知道亚伯拉罕是否会为了他而牺牲唯一的儿子。）
Does Abraham go through with this sacrifice?
（翻译-清辞Ｗei：亚伯拉罕是否这样做了呢？）

Donna Gordon：Stupid, everything can be seen as symbolic.Yes.

God terminates the sacrifice before Abraham can kill hisson Isaac.

Donna Gordon：There are a couple of lessons that we canlearn from this story.

1. Sacrificefor others in our daily life is important.

We sacrifice each day for our children. We take from our time to help them.

We take time to do chores for our elders.

Giving of ourselves for the benefit of others is a goodthing.

2. On an ancientliteral level, the Bible is saying that sacrificing your children to the godsis not to be done.
（翻译-清辞Ｗei：2. 从字面的意思看，圣经里说不要用孩子来献祭。）
Animal sacrifices are better in ancient times. God does not want human sacrifice to testyour loyalty.
（翻译-清辞Ｗei：在古代，用动物献祭是更好的。神不想用献祭人来测试忠诚。）
The Jews had two very large and lavish ancient Temple in Jerusalem, whichis in the country of Israel.
（翻译-清辞Ｗei：在以色列的耶路撒冷，犹太人曾有两个很大，很豪华的古代教堂。）
When the last Templewas destroyed 2000 years ago, Jews ceased animal sacrifices to God.

God wants the sincere prayers of our hearts instead.

How many of you are seeing the God of the Bible as abeing who has an ego?

Is it because it gives God power？

Is it because God is insecure？

Donna Gordon：CJ, good question. It is also my question.The Bible shows God as having some human ego qualities.（Cj，好问题，我也有同样的问题。圣经展示出来神像人类一样的有小我。）

Donna Gordon：Ancient man could only explain the works ofGod through human terms and a human brain.

They could not see beyond their humaness.

Fu Feng Teacher would explain it as their lower senses.
